Advancing Urban Solar Energy: TRANSMIT at EMRS Spring 2026

Nuno Rodrigues represented the TRANSMIT project at the E-MRS Spring Meeting 2026, held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre of Strasbourg, France, from May 25 to 29.

Organised in collaboration with the Foundation Jean-Marie Lehn, the conference featured an oral presentation on advancing semi-transparent photovoltaics for urban environments. The research highlights a sustainable bottom-up fabrication approach for Cu(In,Ga)Se2 solar cells that enables metal recycling alongside an optimized selenization process to protect back contacts. By enhancing charge collection at the cell edges, this methodology successfully balances high efficiency with a visually pleasing design, offering a scalable clean energy solution for building facades and windows to help power net zero cities.

TRANSMIT's participation in Symposium A, "Thin-Film Chalcogenide Materials for PV and Solar Energy Conversion," reflects the project's commitment to driving innovative solar technology forward in support of the EU-wide green transition.
